About The Sunshine Kindergarten
The Sunshine School was founded by Mrs Vera Al-Mutawa (MBE) in 1978 to provide education for students of primary age. Welcome to The Sunshine Kindergarten (TSK)
from Madam Vera Al-Mutawa
I opened The Sunshine Kindergarten in September 2008. Previously, my little ones were housed in a section of TSK’s sister school, The British School of Kuwait (BSK).
TSK caters for children from 19 months to 4 years old and is located in its own purpose built building opposite the BSK campus. Since opening, TSK has gained a wide reputation for high standards, a caring and friendly atmosphere and the exceptional quality of its highly experienced and well-motivated teaching and leadership teams.
Included in the facilities of the main school building are large and bright classrooms, equipped with Early Years Resources from the UK, an extensive Jungle Gym, vast discovery Atriums with Interactive Whiteboards, outside shaded play areas, a PE/dance studio and an assembly hall.
In 2013 I opened the new TSK Crèche unit. This beautifully decorated unit is home to my youngest students (19 months to 2 ½ years) and has its own entry/exit, Atrium and shared playing areas. Favourable staffing ratios make the Crèche an ideal place to start your child’s Early Years education.
My teams and I look forward to welcoming your children into our TSK family.

19 months – 30 months
Our primary goal is to ensure that we provide the highest quality childcare. In the Crèche unit, we aim to help children become successful learners and confident individuals. We aim to give children opportunities to develop at their own pace through active learning activities. Your children will be safe, cared for and stimulated in an efficient, well-maintained and stimulating environment.
Above all we want your child to leave our Crèche unit with the confidence and skills to help them meet the challenges that lie ahead in the school system and beyond. We passionately believe this is to be a joint effort between TSK and parents and to that end we will promote the right environment for that partnership to succeed.
Pre - Kindergarten
30 months – 36 months
The overarching aim of the Early Years Foundation Stage is to help young children reach their full potential and achieve success. At TSK we accomplish this by setting high standards, providing equality of opportunity, creating a framework for partnership between parents, school and children, continuously improving quality of teaching and learning, developing and maintaining consistency and laying secure foundations for future learning.
In Pre-Kindergarten classes, we achieve high standards through delivery of a wide variety of planned activities and involvement in children’s play. We extend and stimulate learning in all the key areas of Learning and Development.
36 months – 48 months
At TSK we firmly believe in learning through play. Our daily programme of activities include sharing books, developing mark making skills, basic mathematical concepts, music and movement, storytelling, creative enhancement activities, role play and group discussion. The Kindergarten follows a theme which changes frequently and most of the activities provided reflect this. Our KG team has a good understanding of how young children develop and learn, engaging with them in order to be fully involved in extending your child’s learning and understanding of the world around them. Through skillful observations the TSK teaching team use assessments to plan appropriate activities to suit every child’s individual needs and help them along their learning journey.
